doppler radar as you can see a big line of storms well organized, now, ahead of the cold front coming on through this way. i'm also worried about storms we're seeing out in the ohio area and those storms could be coming on through here at 8:00, 9:00, 10:00. look at these storms. a lot of lightning will be associated with these storms. temperatures are getting into 100 degrees earlier today. you can see it entering the county. these storms will be impacting parts of the d.c. area over the next couple of hours. we still have the heat advisory until 8:00 tonight. the heat index is over 105. these numbers, 105 downtown and leesburg, and the atmosphere have very unstable. and these storms could stay well organized once they pass the prediction center. and that will be a slight risk for the severe storms. so again tonight as you're getting ready for the evening,

i would bring in any lawn chairs and get ready because any storms we do see, especially north of town could be pretty big. we'll have more details on your forecast a little bit later. back to you, derek. >> thank you, anny. new pictures tonight of the man who may have kidnapped cal ripken jr.'s mom. police believe that this is the fella who abducted ripken's mom on tuesday morning from her home. >> the last picture that we have is what you'll see in the photograph. he was wearing a white shirt, a long white shirt, blue jeans, had a hat on. >> authorities have not released a motive, but according to wjz in baltimore, ripken was bound and gagged during that abduction and then driven through baltimore and hartford county. even though police was swarming her house when she was missing, the kidnapper was able to drop her down a few doors down and get away. the fbi says police are assisting in the authority looking for the abductor. a 23-year-old victim of the

colorado massacre was laid to rest today while officers offered help to the survivors of the attack. we've got the latest from aurora. >> reporter: family members and friends hugged and cried as they gathered at her funeral in denver today. >> i couldn't write anything for my sister. because words, they can't describe how my side kick and i feel. >> reporter: colorado's governor and the mayor were among the mourners. >> we will remember you. >> reporter: the 23-year-old aurora college student went to see the new batman movie with her friends. she died in the theater, but investigators kept her body at the crime scene. it was almost 20 hours before her family learned the tragic news. >> we're blessed to have the opportunity of her touching our lives. let us not forget her. >> some of the survivors of the rampage won't have to pay their

pick up truck belonging to his step dad who works as a security guard, finding a loaded gun and it went off. at this point no charges have been filed. a dispute over someone cutting in line. police say that's what lead to a stabbing it had afternoon just outside -- this afternoon just outside the post office in silver spring. postal employees intervened, blasting away with pepper spray. the man who had been stabbed was rushed to the hospital, expected to be okay. the other fellow ran off. police caught up with him and he is now in custody. mitt romney is in london tonight, looking to raise some cash and smooth over comments he made about the city hosting the olympics. >> my experience as the olympic organizer is that there are always a few very small things that didn't end up going not quite right in the first day or so, those that get ironed out. >> yeah, romney had ruffled a few feathers at the start of his overseas trip, saying he had some doubts as to whether or not great britain was ready for the games. olympic officials tonight over refusing a request to hold

a moment of silence during tomorrow's opening ceremonies for the israeli athletes killed in the 1972 games. but the widows of two of the athletes are not giving up, calling on spectators to get up and stand silently for one minute. the ioc says several commemorations have already been planned. >> we have marked it on the 25th, the 30th anniversary. we'll continue to mark this and the president itself said that they will never forget what happened. >> 40 years ago, 11 israeli athletes and coaches were killed after terrorists took them hostage from their olympic dorm rooms. the washington swim coach might be barred tonight after one of them accused of molesting her and paying off her family to keep it all quiet. well now montgomery county police are investigating. and as a report of bruce leshan explaning that the 43-year-old victim said she was only 12 when rick curl started grooming her for sexual abuse.

like that on the radar. is that what we're looking at? >> i don't really think so here in d.c. the biggest threat is further up north in pennsylvania and new york, but i still think that we could get the real high winds going out of these storms, derek. so these storms are still nothing to be messed around with and i would definitely make sure that you bring in your lawn furniture and start preparing because of these storms, they could really create a lot of high wind gusts, 50,60,70, 80 miles per hour winds. now, we're also still under the heat advisory until 8:00 as you see the heat index, 10, 110. as you can see, we have severe thunderstorm warnings, up north in pennsylvania, folsom, bedford, somerset county.

so slowly we'll see the thunderstorms come on through between the north and the radar and lightning. and you can see the whole line of storms, ahead of the cold front. and we'll take a look at these storms out to the west and ohio and these storms, they will impact us. and now, that's when you'll see the high winds, and a lot of lightning with these storms. over the next few hours, you'll really need to watch the storms. it's the calm before the storm, but it will be very hot out there. 89 -- 98 degrees, high winds. they are southwest. temperatures r and -- temperatures around town, upper 90s, downtown, but you'll go up to the burbs in winchester. and all the heat that we have had, it means that the atmosphere is unstable and they could support the potential for severe storms. and the heat index, it still

feels hot. look at leesburg, 110, 105 downtown and also 105 here for you in fredericksburg. so we're looking at the big storms coming on in the way. and thunderstorms, they are likely, especially if you're north of town. looking at damaging wind gusts. more storms are likely for friday and saturday and looking to be hot and unsettled. so now for tonight, we're under a severe weather alert day. partly cloudy conditions with the showers and storms, strong to severe lows, 75 to 80 degrees. all right, for the next three days, our 9 weather alert code for friday is yellow because of the heat and the potential for more stronger storms. high of 94. on saturday, 92. scattered showers and storms still possible. and then on sunday, lower 90s, mostly sunny conditions. check out the next seven days for you. the temperatures on monday, they will be around 99, close to more scattered showers and storms on monday and tuesday. we'll break into programming to let you know about these storms, derek. also go tour -- go to our

it is each child's decision on how they raise their children. i'm sure that the negative opinions will be really helping this family deal with the death over this poor child, not. my grandmother used to say if you have nothing nice to say to keep your big trap shut. and then this, the proo posed innovation of the proposed unions. yesterday, they told you that they wanted to spend about $7 billion to fix up the old girl. they are simply taken on by this. it must be great to work on the group, paying for and dreaming up plans for you to lose even more. it is the economy, stupid. $7 billion, huh is this well, why don't you wait until the economy could afford their dreams. and pat says, money is not the only reason to be concerned. although that i am in favor of expanding the station that i'm 100% against taking such a beautiful old build -- building, transforming it into a modern new structure, please leave union station alone and improve the traffic pattern around it and do whatever you
